2022 – WINNER, Victoria AFL Community Facility of the Year, Ken Gannon Community Facility of the Year Awards

Brand Architects worked closely with Warrnambool City Council and its Project Working Group, to navigate a reasonably complex project with numerous stakeholders, including multiple clubs and prospective tenants, the adjacent Warrnambool Football Club, the Umpires Association, and the broader community.

Completed in 2022, it is a shining example of state government and local council coming together with sporting stakeholders to deliver a wonderful outcome for the community. The venue has given the Warrnambool area a major boost and having been developed to cater for AFL preseason and AFLW matches, hosted its first AFLW home-and-away game in October 2022 when 3,800 spectators flocked to watch Essendon play Geelong.

The facility doesn’t just cater to but encourages female participation in sport, with gender neutral, inclusive change and amenities for players and umpires. The building and its surrounds are highly accessible to players, spectators and the general public, and has significantly improved the overall amenity of the site.
