“Form and materials, carefully composed and articulated to respond directly to their context.”
This project aimed to produce a house of outstanding architectural and environmental quality, to create an inspiring living environment for a retiring couple. The internal detailing meets the guidelines of the Asthma Foundation for minimising allergens, and the layout is designed around adaptable housing standards.  Externally the careful composition of materials provides a dynamic and playful form with few applied finishes to minimise maintenance.

Much of the furniture is designed in as joinery, reflecting the client’s desire to remove clutter from their lives.

Floors are white polished concrete, increasing the thermal mass and stabilising the internal temperature while providing acoustic isolation between rooms.  The house is fitted with a solar hot water system and underground 5000ltr tank connected to the toilets, washing machine and garden taps. Outside the native garden is designed to minimise water use.
